How I Work

Coaching is Powerful

It leaves people self-correcting and self-generating. All of us have areas of our professional or personal lives that we'd like to change. For some, this comes on the heels of a bad break-up or an employment termination. For others it is simply the internal longing for our lives to be different, more balanced and fulfilling. Often, the knowledge of the need for, or the desire for change is not enough for us to actually effect that change. Coaches call these places in our lives "Blind Spots". We see that change needs to occur and yet we feel powerless or unsure as to how to move forward. As a coach, my job is to see clearly where my clients are "blind", to make powerful distinctions that allow for new insight and together create a realistic plan of action and system of support to effect the desired changes.

It is often said that people don't change. I believe that actually we would change if we only knew how. To use the analogy of an automobile, when a car breaks down, not being professional mechanics, we take it to an auto shop. When our lives break down, we often try to "fix" them ourselves. Coaches help people through the breakdowns of life so we don't get stuck by the side of the road, alone and unsure of what to do next. Coaching gets people and businesses back on track.

Coaching Programs

My consulting and coaching practice is a dynamic, client driven process that respects where each person is in her or his professional or personal life. My clients choose the level and depth of work that we do together. I work closely with my clients to create distinct and specific coaching programs for each person, taking 2-3 weeks to research and reflect on its design. In developing my coaching programs, I utilize my client's input, my insight and various models for change from different sources, including innovative business practices, coaching, psychology, philosophy, religion, poetry, music and art.

Consulting projects can be as short as a one time meeting/brainstorming session to coaching programs that last from three to eighteen months and are comprised of self-observation, new practices, development of a support system and acquisition of the skills required to self-correct and self-generate.

Coaching is Not Therapy

Therapy addresses and heals the past. While I will look to the past to understand a client's current issue, my work takes place in the present in order to affect and heal the future. People are often surprised by how effective coaching can be and by how quickly committing to it can bring about the desired changes in one's life. It is powerful, effective work. This is one of the reasons I love coaching work and being coached myself.

I am an effective coach as a result of having done so much of my own work in my personal and professional lives. My ability to make grounded assessments, to see clearly and without judgment creates a safe, healing environment for my clients to make the changes they desire. I love my work, and I love my clients. Coaching is my deepest calling in life, and it brings me great joy to do my work.

Rates

Coaching sessions are charged at a flat rate which includes 20-30 minutes prep time for each session. The first six sessions are on retainer. The original intake session is an additional $250 and lasts one to two hours. I work with clients on a sliding scale basis when merited by the client's financial situation. Sessions take place in person or by phone and last approximately 45-75 minutes with longer and more frequent sessions usually taking place early in our coaching relationship. I enjoy good relationships with some of the top coaches and consultants in the United States and on occasion I will bring in other consultants and coaches to work with my clients. While confidentiality in professional coaching relationships is not required by law, I feel it should be, and my work with clients remains with me.

"I beg you to have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a foreign language. Don't search for the answers which could not be given you now, because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps, then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without ever noticing it, live your way into the answer."
~ Rainer Maria Rilke

"I define love thus: The will to extend one's self for the purpose of nurturing one's own or another's spiritual growth."
~ M. Scott Peck

"Healing is a basic human function; not a medical touch or a supernatural power."
